Youth Arts Activist Communications Klass (YAACK)

This free class and workshop will be held Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month of April 2024.
Friday classes 3:30 to 5 pm
Saturdays and Sundays 1 to 3 pm
Parents must attend first 30 minutes of first day of class/orientation day - Friday April 5th at 3:30 pm

What students will learn

✺ Zine Making
Zines are DIY, one-of-a-kind hand-made booklets that can be about any topic or interest.
Students will learn all about zines and make their own! Students will learn a variety of zine-making purposes and techniques.

✺ Activism
Participants are encouraged to use the communication techniques learned in this class to inform the public about issues important to them, educate, and call to action.

✺ Video Podcasting
Students will learn audio and video recording and create a video podcast.

✺ Art
Art, illustration, and drawing techniques will be taught in a fun, safe. and encouraging environment. All skill levels are welcome! Materials provided. Come as you are!
About the Instructor
TJ Walkup is a father, published book illustrator, award-winning television producer, independent filmmaker, and visual artist. His classes are encouraging and provide access to tools for independent expression. He meets students where they are and assists them in developing their individual talents.
TJ is currently working on a documentary film about healing generational trauma from the 1898 racial massacre in Wilmington, North Carolina and an illustrated version of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. He owns and operates Omnific Pictures, a full-service television and video production company.
